Xterra Worlds Tri '05 - Maui, Hawaii

Today it's a 1500 meter ocean swim followed by a 30 kilometer mtn bike and ends with an 11k trail run. Here's a nice preview of the World Championship finish line. By the time I get here I'll be smoked!

Masses gather on the beach prior to the start of the offshore swim, which will be signaled with a cannon blast!

Buzzing away from evil pursuers I rode like a rock star up, up, up and down, down, down Haleakala Crater. But the ride into the run transition left me with debilitating cramps. I thought my race was through. I coasted into transition and . . .

Wow, I made my way one step at a time, through the "spooky forest," and eventually to this beautiful beach. What a run.

Xterra Nationals '05 - Incline Village, Nevada

Competed in 8 Xterras during my rookie endurance racing season attempting to qualify for Xterra National Championships at Lake Tahoe (10 Xterras including Nationals and Worlds). Being from a weight lifting background it was tough 'cause I just couldn't seem to get that light-weight body type, but I qualified. Don't I look relaxed the day before the Big Race?

Tahoe didn't want me as it was choppy as it gets, but I sliced through it like a cigarette boat and I kicked off the tri with one of my best swims ever.

I highly recommend checking out the spactacular view during the mtn bike. Broke my glasses at the 8900' summit and decended the fast, sand-clouded downhill eyeballs exposed. I had frequent visits from the sandman for a week!

Here I come like gang-busters into run transition. A close look shows me braking for the Barney ahead.

Headin' out on the run.
